Morning Devotional: Jesus is Heavenly Father's Son L5a

Hannah woke up very snotty today. Her nose keeps running but still she is as adorable as they come in this cute picture.
Today for Devotional we sang I Feel my Savior's love which really brought the spirit this morning. The lesson was about how everyone has two fathers; an earthly father and our Heavenly Father, but Jesus who only has one father. It's hard for kids to separate God and Jesus, so we talked for the first time about Jesus being our brother. Then we went through the nativity story to identify people.

We colored baby Jesus and the manger.
Robert scribbled two lines then handed it to me.

And of course, since Hailey's favorite color is blue everything she colors has to be blue.

One down fall of getting all my activities from one source is that the pictures has the same style. So Robert kept calling baby Jesus, baby Moses since they looked exactly the same. Oh well, I try not to sweat the small stuff.

Joy School: Wrap Up & KR7

This is the last lesson in the unit so it was mainly a review. The opening activity was to have a lot of little boxes to choose from which had junk in them and one box had a piece of candy. Then we were supposed to talk about how choices are connected to the way we feel. Then they open the present and feel disappointed about there decisions. Finally, since the object was taught, everyone got candy. However, there wasn't enough people to do this and Hailey can't handle teasing so we skipped that and went straight to the art activity.

We could fold the strips of paper anyway we want to make a sculptor.
I made a little person.

Hailey made a playground. She spent more time doing this activity then what she normally does.

Then we pledge (promise) to obey the Joy School Rules to keep our school special.

Then there was a story about a boy who found a magic guy in a box who could grant one wish if the little boy followed three rules. It never told what the boy wished for but Hailey's wish would be for a pony. (I was surprised by that answer, she has never talked about a pony before).

This is also the last Kindergarten Readiness lesson in the First Unit. Hailey traced all the letters.

Then we played Bingo with the first 4 letters with Smarties!

That was a big hit.

Morning Devotional: Daniel L4b

To continue the prayer theme we talked about Daniel. We sang the Daniel verse of Follow the Prophet. While I was trying to figure out the timing of the lyrics, I stalled and Hailey continued with the words. (They are learning the song in Primary) I thought that was pretty neat.
We color the scene of Daniel and repeated the story a lot.

For night-time Robert picked out the story of Daniel for a bedtime story. It's exciting to learn that they are retaining somethings.

Morning Devotional: I Can Pray L4a

I am excited about this lesson because Robert's prayer is only over the food. I wanted to help him know that there are other things to pray about.
We talked about who we pray to and what we can thank Him for. We made little "I Thank Heavenly Father for.." booklets.Hailey really got into the lesson and followed what I was trying to teach her.

Hailey also wanted her booklet to be in the same order as mine.

I was really interested about what would happen when Robert prayed again. He said the night time prayer and it was longer than normal but he was too quiet to hear.

Joy School: Nature Laws & KR6

This lesson is new one (not a repeat from last year with a little variation). I didn't have the felt pictures ready and my color ink is out, so Hailey held the pictures up for me which she enjoyed. (I'll color them later)

We talked about how nature has rules to follow (the bees must make honey, bears must hibernate).
Then we were going to sing a new song but Hailey hated it and freaked out on me. I was almost going to stop today. But we both decided to finish the lesson quickly and do the art activity by making Obedience Charts.

We get a sticker for each rule/request that we obey. Hailey loved the part that mommy was doing it to and thought it entitled her to boss me around. I let it slide for a day.For the Kindergarten Readiness lesson, I made upper and lowercase A,B,C, and D out of sandpaper. It is supposed to help encourage kids to trace the letters with a unique texture.

Then Hailey matched the upper and lowercase letters. Lowercase b and d are really hard to tell apart, so she looks on the chart on the wall to double check which way it goes.

Joy School: Decisions & KR5

My camera's battery is dead for there was no pictures. However, there wasn't a whole lot to this lesson today so I wouldn't have taken a lot of pictures anyways.

The lesson was about making decisions and how there are good decisions and bad ones. The art activity was choosing between water colors or markers (we choose watercolors) and whether the paper we color on is circle or regular (Hailey had regular and I did a circle). I just painted a rainbow circle while Hailey painted a little then decided to cut a circle out too. Anytime Hailey wants to use scissors I try to encourage it. She doesn't like cutting much because she wants it perfect the first time.

Then we read "Shortcuts" and talked about how the kids aren't making good choices. I really like this book and need to get ourselves a copy of it. It has a train theme to it which the kids love.

The last activity was a story about Jessie's typical day and all the decisions she makes in one day.

For the Kindergarten Readiness, we traced/wrote our names again on lined paper. Then worked on recognizing upper and lowercase letters. We were supposed to used the first letter of each child's name to practice on. Since it was just Hailey and I we used H-Hailey, M-Mommy, A-Audrey, D-Diane, C-Clements. I had flashcards with the letters and played a match game.

Preschool: c is for comet

Since preschool on Tuesday was a little crazy, we did the lowercase c on another day. We read the book "When Halley came to Jackson". It's about Halley's Comet. Then we made our own comets. First we colored the comet's tail using yellow food color mixed with a little bit of water and dyed paper towels with eye droppers.
Then we traced the lowercase c with gold glitter.

We glued it on a black piece of paper and added glow is the dark form star stickers.

Morning Devotional: Heavenly Father's Plan for Us L3b

This lesson had a neat activity. We talked about living in heaven as spirit children. Then we came to earth to a family. We talked about the things we need to do and learn on earth and then we die and our spirits go back to heaven. Since Hailey's favorite miracle is Jesus being resurrected we talked about our bodies joining our spirits again and being resurrected also.

So in our activity, we have a picture of heaven and of our home. We have a little doll cut out to represent our body and then I cut out another doll out of wax paper for our spirits.
The wax doll is cut in a way that it came slide over the paper doll to show our spirits in our body.
I told Robert he needed to color first before I cut his out. So he grabbed a crayon scribbled quickly over the page and in two seconds told me he was all done and ready for it to be cut out.

Hailey wanted both the girl and the boy doll cut out so the boy doll could be her dad.

Preschool: C is for Cat

We started a new nursery rhyme this week: Little Jack Horner.

Today, I had Kira and Gabe over again. When we started preschool only Robert and Kira wanted to join me. I was very excited that Robert wanted to do preschool.

So we went over the nursery rhyme and then read CopyCats out of the AlphaTales book. Instead of trying to turn the letter C into a Cat, we just make cats with paper plates and paint. I got the idea off of notimeforflashcards. When I started pulling out the paints, Gabe and Hailey decided to join us.

Morning Devotional: Heavenly Father's Plan for Us L3a

I got "Singing Fun 2009" which has the song "I lived in heaven". I copied, colored, and cut it out. We have been using the song a lot for these devotionals and for Family Home Evening. This song went perfectly with today's lesson. The kids know the first verse very well.

To reiterate where we came from, the art activity was making a picture of ourselves.

Hailey wanted to make a nice monster instead of herself.
This morning was a little crazy because Robert wanted to fed Hannah cereal. She got cereal all over herself and the tray. Then since I left one of the craft drawers open, she was able to get some markers and crayons (in the picture she is chewing on a crayon). That also spread the cereal mess to a whole new level.

Morning Devotional: Joseph Smith L2b

To continue on with our lesson about Heavenly Father having a body, we talked about Joseph Smith. The primary program is coming up soon and Hailey's part is "J is for Joseph Smith. April's theme is Jesus Christ restored the fullness of the gospel through Joseph Smith." Hailey almost has the whole thing memorized perfectly. Both Hailey and Robert know that Joseph Smith was a prophet.

The art activity is this little scene pop-up, which the kids enjoyed a lot.

Morning Devotional: Heavenly has a Body L2a

Today we talked about how we have a body and how Heavenly Father has a body. First they draw pictures of themselves and then tried to figure out which one is real, the picture or us with our bodies. Robert just scribbled and Hailey draw herself and gramma.
We also made a double sided puzzle. Hailey is proud that she put hers together all by herself.

Today we had milk split twice!

Joy School: Rules and KR4

The Joy School lesson was very short since there was supposed to be a field trip involved. So we just talked about obedience and how the five little monkeys didn't obey the doctor.

We also talked and had a flannel board story about how are feelings are connected to the way we feel. If we make good choices we feel happy. We talk about how our choices makes us feel when Hailey goes to timeout.

For Kindergarten Readiness, Hailey wrote her name again and is doing really well. She just has a hard time with the lowercase a.
Then we played a matching game with 5 uppercase and lowercase letters.

Hailey liked the game and has a hard time with figuring out the difference between the lowercase a and d.
